Three meetings were held to discuss principal topics
related to the Manhattan
Prospect on January 14th. We appreciate the time and dedication each participant contributed to these meetings. Follow on meetings will be announced here soon, so please be sure to RSVP for each meeting you would like to
attend.

The Competencies: The Council on the Environment of New York City (CENYC), led by experienced conservationist and political leader Marcel VanOoyan and CENYC's Office of Recycling Outreach and Education Director David Hurd is leading a solid waste diversion effort focusing on the DSNYC's residential, venue, public property, and street basket waste flows, and will contribute knowledge and management to the Business and Organization Coalition being formed by the Manhattan Prospect.
Global Green (GG) and the GreenBlue Institute (GBI) are
experienced, results-oriented, business/industry coalition builders with proven
success records in addressing municipal waste flow diversion, resource
reclamation, and recycling.
Both have successfully
created "vertical value chain" membership groups in which
material designs are traced from birth to recycled rebirth by
facilitating changes in material compositions, product and packaging
designs, sorting identity and simplification, and maximized recaptured
resource values in recycling. Both organizations will assist creation of
the Manhattan Prospect Coalition as a self-funding, self-perpetuating coalition
focusing specifically on solid waste diversion through sorted recovery,
reclamation, and recycling.
The Commencement: A four phase program will be launched in overlapping
succession, wherein as (1). a New
York office and staff is initiated, (2). local
volunteers and GG/GBI professionals will begin inviting founders circle coalition
memberships and (3). compose/present specific segment project grant proposals,
while (4). GG's long established RTPR.org wholesale packaging roundtable
will address the Prospect's first private/public packaging material
transition (wholesale protein perishables).
The Coalition: As the founders circle is complete, general membership solicitation
will begin by targeting service businesses and
manufacturers equipped with solutions to each waste flow segment (materials
designers and specifiers, pre-sort and reclamation
systems, refiners and recyclers). As evidenced in establishing GBI's
Sustainable Packaging Coalition, commercial companies with goal-oriented
products and services to offer become eager dues and contributor
subscribers, creating financial self perpetuation as each group is
established. Corporate and foundation grants focused on specific materials,
products, waste flow segments (i.e., bottles and cans, food wastes, coffee
cups, flower boxes, etc.) are drawn to broadly replicable resource stewardship
programs.
